My biographical info and where you can find more about me...
robert a. jakobson
I was born on April 14, 1962 at 11:40
... Which depending on who you ask is 50 years to the minute when the Titanic Sank. This is the same day that the words "Houston We Have A Problem" were uttered by the Apollo 13 crew.
... Anyone seeing a pattern forming?
I guess you could say, whatever I was going to do in life, it was destined to work with technology, critical situations, disastaters, and possibly working as a hotel manager if you believe my high school placement exams.
A Bio seems to be the thing of the week on resumes these days- so here's mine but I should warn you that I hate doing bio's because:
A) There is no way to do one that isn't egomaniacal.
B) No matter what you do or how you phrase them - You're forced to cut out a lot of things you've done or genericize the work, and what's worse it starts to sound like a bad beauty queen contestant trying to sell why they'd be the perfect choice...
<sarcasm mode: begin>
"I like sky diving, long walks along the beach and dancing in the rain while I think of world peace..."
</sarcasm mode: end>
...and finally my last reason for hating Biographies...
C) I, like Robert Heinlein's fictional character "Lazarus Long", have always felt that any personal queries about someone should generally be answered with a resounding "Go to Hell!". It's nothing personal - but some Bios I've seen reveal a bit tooo much personal information. And besides, who cares what kind of character I have on Eitrig? (I used to have an Elf but I'm back to City of Heroes when I can ... it doesn't affect my work by taking 3 hours for a mission.)
But this is a brave new world ... and politeness dictates I give you some concept of my skills and personal info. So... now that I've wasted 10 minutes of your life you are never going to get back ... you can check me out on the web:
For those looking for me on the web... here's the list
People checking for info on someone on the web? What will they think of next?? Yes, in todays world, it's true... People do search to see if you've got a blog or social network page that's embarassing. I like to help people out by leading them to my embarassments.
If you do find anything more embarassing about me than this stuff that's out there - please send me a link so I can enjoy it too.
As a general rule - these will always be the same since I don't have a lot of time and Windows Live Writer allows me to update all of them at once with the same information. So expect them to often be the same thing over and over...

Facebook:
I actualy do update this often. Mostly because it works well wth my phone. So all updates are via my mobile..

LinkedIn:
I used to be very much a answer guy on LinkedIn with a pretty high rating but LI really has kind of gotten to be more of a hassle to update and keep up with than I can deal with. I do repond and I do check it often - I just don't participate as I once did.

Youtube / Soapbox / Vimeo / Flickr:
I used to have a very lengthy bit of video work on Soapbox - the MSN version of Youtube before MS pulled the plug on personal video works there. (Still believe that they had a much better interface - but lack of support and lack of publicity on it killed it... sigh.) I have accounts there - as well as with Deviant Art and some other sites.
As you can see - I'm very much into working with Microsoft Expression Blend, Encoder, as well as the usual Adobe and 3D Studio Max - and similar products for video compositing / editing. Occasionally I even do short tutorials and help people on projects. I should probably actually get off my lazy butt and create a portfolio or something but - for now this is good enough for me. If you click on the link for "Video" under "Projects" you can see some of my more recent tidbits of work there.
